Book of Shadows vs Grimoire
Although some people may use these terms interchangeably, there is a difference between a Book of Shadows and a Grimoire. Most people are more familiar with the term ‘Book of Shadows’ thanks to Hollywood movies.
A Book of Shadows (BoS) is similar to a diary or journal. It is the shadow of its owner. It is deeply personal to you and will contain your private information such as your Natal Chart, Astrological & Zodiac Notes, personality assessment results, & family lineage. It’ll also contain your personal beliefs, values, & mantras. Plus, it’s where you’ll write down your observations & experiences from doing any spells, rituals, intention settings, etc.
A Grimoire is more like a recipe book. It’ll contain detailed instructions, how-to’s, notes, recipes, magical correspondences, herbal lists, etc. It is a book of work that can be handed down to the next generation. And as Witchpreneurs, you can also create your own Business Book of Shadows or Grimoire too!
Some witches will only have one book that serves as both a BoS and a Grimoire. These books can be made using a 3-ring binder with sleeve protectors, or a pretty composition notebook, a handmade leather cover with tea-stained pages inside, or it can simply be a digital folder on your computer.
Witchcraft is a deeply personal journey where you get to feel into what you want and how you want to do things.
Besides the obvious personal use, such a book plays a vital part in a witchpreneur’s business success.
Not only will it contain your witchy business spells and rituals, but it’ll also contain your notes on things like launches, sales copy, social media posts, etc. Think of it as an extension of your business’s book of records.
If you’re building your business dynasty to hand down to the next generation, then your biz BoS becomes an important tool.
One of the biggest errors I see entrepreneurs making is not regarding their business as a living entity. Yes, our businesses are an extension of ourselves, but they’re so much more than that!
